A Jersey Christmas

A group of 32 Chard Travel Group members left their Somerset home in November last year for a four-night ‘tinsel and turkey’ break to Jersey, organised by GTO Eddy Madge.

The members travelled to Weymouth with Barrys Coaches, based in the town, and made the crossing to Jersey with Condor Ferries. Eddy recalls, “The food onboard the ferry was very good and fairly inexpensive.” He adds, “It was the first time we’d used Barrys Coaches but I was pleased with the service they provided.”
The group was based at the Hotel Metropole in St Helier, which Eddy came across on a familiarisation trip to the island in August last year. He remarks, “It was a first class hotel! The groups manager, Leon, couldn’t be faulted and Elaine, who organised all our excursions, was very helpful too.”
During their stay, the group enjoyed all the trimmings of Christmas, with Eddy remarking, “The food was out of this world; there was plenty to feast on.” The members also took the opportunity to participate in some of the hotel’s activities, most notably the fancy dress competition. He says, “There are pictures of us on the hotel’s Facebook page; the management told us they’d never had a group put so much effort in before. I dressed up as Henry VIII!”
As well as the entertainment at the hotel, the group indulged in some sightseeing on a couple of the days. Eddy recalls, “We visited the Jersey War Tunnels, which were very interesting and also toured the island by coach.” He adds, “Jersey’s a beautiful place and we’d love to return soon.”
