At the beginning of June, GTO Maureen Hardingham from Ely in Cambridgeshire took 23 Motex Leisure members on an eight-day holiday to Götzens, a small village in Tyrol, Western Austria, with just for groups! of Norwich.
It was a long coach journey for Motex Leisure, as they ventured across the Channel and up through France, Belgium and Germany, where they stopped for the night in Troisdorf, a town just south of Cologne. Maureen comments, “Fortunately, our driver, Neil Cunningham of South Staffs Travel, was marvellous, and we stopped regularly for refreshment and comfort breaks.”
The following morning, the group completed the final leg of the journey to the Club Hotel in Götzens – their base for the next five days. Maureen recalls, “From here, we visited the city of Innsbruck, located in the Inn Valley, and Schloss Ambras, a Renaissance castle in the hills nearby, as well as the fabulous Swarovski Crystal World in Wattens and Salzburg, the town where both the composer Mozart and the Von Trapp family, on which The Sound of Music is based, lived.”
Maureen continues, “The most popular visit amongst the group, however, was a trip to Lake Achensee, which we reached on board the Achensee Steam Cog Railway. Enroute we enjoyed drinking some complimentary schnapps and listening to live accordion music, and on reaching the lake we transferred to a steamboat from the Achensee Ferry Company to continue our beautiful journey. The landscape was spectacular.”
To top off the holiday, the group experienced an evening of Tyrolean yodelling and dancing. Maureen exclaims, “It was delightful entertainment – other GTOs should definitely plan this into their Austrian itineraries.” Of the whole holiday, Maureen says, “All the arrangements were taken care of superbly by Fiona Brownsell, Sales Executive at just for groups! and it was excellent value for money. My group all had a wonderful time!”
