Staged as part of the London 2012 Festival, which takes place next summer to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the city, Blanchett will star in Gross und Klein in April before Binoche takes to the stage in September for Mademoiselle Julie.
Blanchett will make her London stage debut in the drama as Lotte. Rejected by her husband and unrecognised by her old friends, she searches for human connections in a surreal wonderland-like world.
A few months later, Binoche will return to the London stage for the first time since 2008 for Mademoiselle Julie.
Strindberg’s drama about a woman longing to escape the ties imposed by her position as the daughter of a Count sees the tragedy of the three main protagonists unfold under the watch of a chorus of local community actors.
