AFTER years of work, Lord Bute’s sitting room at Cardiff Castle has been restored to its former glory and opened to visitors for the first time.

Photographs taken of the historic room in 1910 were used to reinstate furniture and fittings, including some pieces that were moved to the Bute family home in Scotland but have now been returned to their original setting.
The room also features replica wall hangings, created to replace those commissioned by William Burges in 1866.
The originals were removed by the Bute family in 1947, and the surviving pieces, which are too delicate for display, are now kept in the castle archives.
Cardiff Castle offers discounted rates of entry for groups of 20 or more.
