Civil War tour explores Old Richmond

THE 150th anniversary of the American Civil War is being marked with a new tour in Richmond, Virginia, that shows life through the war from a new angle.

As the Civil War progressed, thousands of people from all over North America were transported to Richmond for a variety of reasons, such as for life-saving care, to be tried as enemy combatants or to be auctioned as property.
The ‘Uncivil Wards’ tour takes visitors through areas of Richmond where the citizens struggled to cope with the flood of war casualties, prisoners of war and slaves.
Sites visited on the tour include the building that housed the Second Alabama Hospital, location of the infamous Libby Prison and the site of Lumpkin’s Slave Jail.
Group rates are available.
