Concerns raised with Tajani by ETOA

ETOA took the chance to talk with EU commissioner Antonio Tajani whilst he was in London at City Fair about several important issues.

Four main areas were touched on: the initiative to encourage more tourism from Latin America and other long haul markets; the handling of visas; city taxes (specifically in Italy – see page 11 of this issue); and a look at the way tourism is taxed in general. Tajani joined the City Fair panel discussion session and acknowledged the need for a more level playing field regarding taxation and to improve visa procedures. He also alluded to the joined up nature of European tourism, but acknowledged the difficulty of dealing with 27 different national governments.
