Coppergate citizens resurrected

WORK has begun on a £150,000 project that will see the creation of two new galleries at the Yorvik Viking Centre in York.

The galleries will use the latest scientific thinking to bring to life human remains excavated during the building of the local Coppergate shopping centre more than 30 years ago.
The ‘Investigate Coppergate’ gallery will present detailed examinations of what the Viking-age citizens of Coppergate ate.
Meanwhile, ‘The Last Vikings of Jorvik’ gallery will look at the final battles of Viking-age in York that heralded the end of the Viking era and the coming of the Normans.
The Viking Centre offers discounts for groups of 15 or more, and will remain open for the duration of the work.
