Derbyshire days with Shirley

GTO Shirley Ward of Shirley Tours in Essex took a group of 45 away to Derbyshire last year, courtesy of Simply Groups of Yorkshire, coach operator, Hardings International of Redditch, and driver Jeff!

“We stopped en-route at Bosworth Battlefield, near Nuneaton, which has really changed over the years,” says Shirley. “One half of the group were taken on a Battlefield Tour and the other were taken into the new interactive exhibition in the Ambion Parva Medieval Village Centre – then we swapped over; it was very good for a visit.”
After lunch, the group headed to Wollaton Hall, Nottingham’s Natural History Museum. “This has sumptuous grounds and is very interesting, stuffed full of birds and other exhibits,” says Shirley.
Then it was on to Legacy Hotels’ Chesterfield Hotel, the base for the four-day holiday. “As part of our package with Simply Groups, we each had four drinks vouchers to use over the duration of the holiday and, of course, we made the most of these!” exclaims Shirley. “The manager proved to be a jack of all trades and nothing was too much trouble for him. He smiled throughout our weekend!”
The next day, the group visited Crich Tramway Village, home of the National Tramway Museum,
where they were met by an enthusiastic volunteer. Shirley comments,” We had a very nice two-course lunch here in The Red Lion pub, before we headed to The Heights of Abraham at Matlock Bath for a spectacular cable car ride to the summit.”
Shirley’s members also fitted in a visit to Chatsworth, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. “There are magnificent landscape gardens and spectacular fountains here,” states Shirley.
The last day inclued a stop at Burghley House in Lincolnshire before heading home. “This is one of the largest and grandest houses of the Elizabethan age,” enthuses Shirley. “ Thank you Simply Groups for all your hard work organising this trip. We had a lovely time and the weather was kind to us too!”
