Dropping in on the ferry to France…

The pilot is helicoptered on board ship

GTO had the chance to sample one of the lesser-known cross-channel ferry routes recently, when our Editorial Director, Peter Stonham, took the trip with LD Lines from Portsmouth to Le Havre.

The service is an ideal way to travel to France from the south coast to arrive in one of the most interesting French ports. The four-hour crossing was on the high speed Norman Arrow ferry but unfortunately took place during a Force 8 gale, though this did add the spectacular extra dimension of the pilot to take the ship into Le Havre having to drop in by helicopter rather than the usual launch! Yvie Corkery, Sales Manager from LD Lines accompanied us, and arranged a visit to the bridge.
