Earl-y learning at Enniskillen house

FLORENCE Court, the 18th century house in the foothills of Cuilcagh Mountain in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, has introduced three new specialist group tours based on the Earls of Enniskillen, their countesses and the servants who worked below stairs.

Characters explored include William Cole, the third Earl of Enniskillen, on the ‘Power and Politics’ tour. A renowned fossil collector, Member of Parliament and Imperial Grand Master of the Orange Order, he lived at Florence Court until his death in 1886.
Meanwhile, the ‘Gentleman Farmer’ tour details the life of Lord John, the fifth Earl of Enniskillen, who oversaw a period of great change for the house, including a fire, a restoration and its transfer to The National Trust.
The third tour, ‘Upstairs Dramas and Downstairs Tales’, includes the stories of Charlotte, the cultured heiress who made the rose garden and gave birth to nine children in 12 years, and Irene Enniskillen who left Florence Court under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s.
A general house tour is also available.
