GTO’s Partnership & Product Director Sarah Jeffery recently spent a weekend exploring the delights that Edinburgh has to offer.

Together with her husband, Pete, she flew with Flybe from Bristol into Edinburgh; a short flight of just over an hour. They stayed at the Radisson Blu Hotel, located in the heart of the capital on the Royal Mile, which offered the perfect base to explore.

Sarah and Pete used their ‘Royal Edinburgh Tickets’ which included entry to Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Yacht Britannia and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, together with 48 hours travel on Edinburgh Bus Tours, incorporating City Sightseeing Edinburgh, Edinburgh Tour, Majestic Tour and MAC Tours. All offered either live or recorded commentary, and they enjoyed learning all about the city and its past.

Saturday was spent exploring the Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith and the stunning Edinburgh Castle, with fabulous views over the city. The Queen was in residence, which meant that the Palace of Holyroodhouse was closed to the public. Instead they visited the Gold exhibition at The Queen’s Gallery.

On Sunday, they visited The Real Mary King’s Close. Buried deep beneath the Royal Mile, it is a warren of hidden streets that has remained frozen in time since the 17th century.

Sarah fell in love with the city and said with so much to see and do, she would love to plan another visit!
