Full steam ahead at Welsh Railway

THE final section of the Welsh Highland Railway, between Pont Croesor and Porthmadog, has been officially declared open.

At 25 miles, the attraction is now the longest heritage railway in the UK. The new section allows passengers to travel all the way from Caernarfon to Porthmadog, and connections with the Ffestiniog Railway mean passengers can also travel between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Caernarfon, giving them access to almost 40 miles of narrow gauge steam railway.
The Welsh Highland Railway offers special rates on tickets for groups of 12 or more booked in advance.
A tour of the engine sheds is included in the price of a ticket and Welsh cream teas or lunches can be arranged for coach parties in the railway’s Russell Tea Room.
Large groups can also arrange to charter a train for their own use.
