Germany comes to the UK

Christ Church Spitalfields was the unusual venue for the 2011 Germany Travel Show, which I attended this month in East London. The afternoon workshop-style event gave me a chance to gather plenty of information on a range of German destinations including Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Rudesheim and Leipzig. I also discovered Autostadt in Wolfsburg for the first time. It’s a 25-hectare attraction, based around the main Volkswagen factory, and has become the second most popular theme park in the country, yet is still relatively unknown in the UK. It also features the first Ritz-Carlton hotel to open in Germany so makes an intriguing site! The workshop was followed by a drinks reception, complete with musical entertainment. The 18th century venue – designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor – makes a lovely backdrop to an event, having undergone significant renovation to return it to its former glory.
