Your group travel guide to Windsor’s attractions and accommodation
The Royal Wedding in Windsor certainly increased the exposure for the Royal Borough. It’s put Windsor and its many attractions at the very top of a ‘must see’ list. Val Baynton took a trip to the town to find out the latest ideas for group visits.For youth groups and mixed age groups LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is right on the doorstep and especially appeals to children aged two to 12. It has over 55 interactive rides including the brand new LEGO NINJAGO World and LEGO NINJAGO the Ride, live shows, building workshops and driving schools as well as 80 million LEGO bricks all set in 150 acres of beautiful parkland.
A new attraction for Adventure Land, The Haunted House Monster Party will open in spring 2019. This mysterious mansion will have mischievous ghouls and gargoyles hiding in the halls that will delight in telling guests a joke or two! You will also be able to sit at the ‘banquet table’ for the resident Vampire’s greatest party trick – turning the house upside down – see if you can hold on as you hang from the ceiling like a bat!
For group leaders there are a number of resources on LEGOLAND’s website to help prepare for the trip including downloads such as a Risk Assessment form along with information for Adult to Student Ratios and Ride Height & Age Restrictions.
Groups can also take advantage of discounted rates, an explorer pack for each child, including a LEGOLAND branded lanyard, exclusive pop badge and an activity pack to complete during their visit.
Newly opened is the Windsor Great Park Environmental Centre and the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust run a programme of workshops and activities there which are ideal for youth groups.
Annual events in The Great Park include the Royal Windsor Horse Show in Home Park, Guards Polo matches while events this year at The Savill Garden range from ‘Giffords Circus’, celebrating the birth of circus in July to ‘Artistry in the Garden’ running from late September until early November.
Ascot Racecourse’s stellar race calendar is augmented by regular events such as the Ascot Spring Garden Show, which was held for the first time this year.
Staying in Windsor
For groups looking to stay for one or more nights there is a variety of accommodation for groups ranging from chains such as Holiday Inn Express to boutique accommodation as well as the YHA in High Wycombe that’s ideal for small groups and two hotels at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort.
If you are staying in the town, evening guided tours of Windsor can be arranged and the Edwardian Theatre Royal is on hand with a year round programme of top class entertainment.
