A group of 25 members of Harrow U3A travelled to Istanbul for five days at the end of last year.

GTO, Inga Stone, organised the trip with the help of Greatdays Travel Group in Cheshire. “We stayed at the Centrum Hotel, which was chosen for its excellent location in the old city and its roof-top restaurant, offering views across the Bosphorus,” comments Inga.”The most important sites in the old city were less than 500 metres from the hotel, making a coach unnecessary.”
As well as visits to the ‘must-see’ Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, the group also enjoyed a private cruise on the Bosphorus. “The most exotic memory for the group was, however, the two and a half hours spent in a traditional Hammam (Turkish bath) with a vigourous body scrub and massage included!” laughs Inga.
A Farewell Dinner at the Sarnic restaurant rounded off the trip nicely. “This is a fairly recent conversion of a 1,000-yearold cistern (water reservoir),” states Inga. “It is a beautiful venue and worth splashing out on!” She continues, “I have always used Greatdays for my trips; they are a great company and extremely nice to deal with. I’m using them again for a four-night trip to Nice in May and it’s already fully booked!”
