Iceland opens explosive attraction

ONE year on from the global travel disruption caused by the Eyjafallajökull ash cloud, a new visitor centre has opened near Skógar, Iceland, dedicated to the eruption.

‘Eyjafallajökull Erupts’ is based at Þorvaldseyri farm, which lies at the base of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
The centre has been set up by the family who live at the farm and exhibits photographs documenting daily life on the farm with the erupting volcano in the background.
The centre also houses a cinema accommodating 50 people showing footage of the eruption and its aftermath.
There is also a gift shop selling books and souvenirs.
The visitor centre offers reduced entry to groups of 15 or more people booked in advance.
