Interactive game brings ship to life

GROUPS visiting HMS Belfast now have the opportunity to visit the warship’s newly-revamped Operations Room, where they will get an opportunity to find out what it would have been like to take part in a real naval operation.

The revamped Operations Room on HMS Belfast will give visitors a realistic sense of what it would have been like to be involved in a salvage operation on the ship.

The revamped Operations Room on HMS Belfast will give visitors a realistic sense of what it would have been like to be involved in a salvage operation on the ship.

Using authentic audio and visual features, an interactive game will allow small groups to take part in a recreation of a 1961 excercise in which the battleship played a leading role, taking control of a fleet of ships during a mission to salvage parts of a plane downed in the sea.
The game uses simulated radar to show the position of other ships and aircraft involved in the mission, and visitors are invited to make decisions about HMS Belfast’s movements, activating a range of realistic effects as they do so.
The Operation Room’s fittings, including switches, levers and radar screens, have also been completely restored.
HMS Belfast offers special rates for groups of 10 or more.
