GTO’s Editor Abbe Bates was excited to visit the family-run Belgravia restaurant Santini in November to meet the owner, Laura Santtini, a third generation restaurateur, award-winning author and international food entrepreneur. After 32 years in her father’s care, she has sympathetically renovated and reorganised the restaurant, calling on the talents of a variety of artists in the process, and now co-runs it with him.
Abbe was able to take a sneak peek of the new Milanese-designed Butterfly Bar and private dining room, which have just launched, and the venue is an ideal place for groups looking for a luxurious pre- or post-theatre meal or drinks option. Now open daily from 12 noon until late, it is one of the last remaining family-run restaurants of its type in Belgravia, famed for being Frank Sinatra’s favourite restaurant when in London. The delicious new pre-theatre and bar menus have been lovingly created by Laura & her culinary team, and Abbe was able to sample some of the fabulous new signature Santini cocktails when she visited as well as tasting the restaurant’s amazing pasta.
A preview of new menu items includes Santini favourites and signature dishes such as slow cooked artichoke and spaghetti lobster whilst new seasonal dishes include braised lamb shank with grapes, balsamic and polenta.
The warm atmosphere creates a really relaxed environment and guests can enjoy all year round al fresco dining on a cigar terrace complete with heaters and cosy blankets, surrounded by beautifully-lit trees.
The new bar lounge offers the option to pop in any time before midnight for a spaghetti lobster and a glass of champagne whilst the newly refurbished private dining room is available for meals, boardroom-style meetings, working lunches, presentations, functions and parties, catering for up to 30 seated or 60 standing. It was a beautiful space, as was the Butterfly Bar – Abbe particularly liked the bespoke antique-style glass mirrors and handcrafted Italian silver bar stools! A wonderful place to add to your list of group dining venues when visiting the theatres close to Victoria Station.
