Tintagel Castle English Heritage is now planning a large project at the Cornish attraction.

An impressive new footbridge is to be created linking the outcrop housing the ruins of much of the 13th century castle to the mainland, following the path of the castle’s original crossing.

Six possible designs are currently under consideration, whittled down from 137 original applicants. The £4 million bridge will cross the 72-metre span 28 metres above the
existing bridge, which has to be closed when tides are particularly high. The winning design will be announced shortly, and the new bridge is due to open in 2019.

Special rates of entry are available at Tintagel Castle for groups of 11 people or more.
