Liverpool and its delightful mix of galleries, museums, city centre shopping and waterfront vistas was the destination for Contributing Editor Val Baynton recently. She enjoyed looking around the Walker Art Gallery and highlights were works by 18th century artists such as Gainsborough, Stubbs and Wright of Derby. The gallery is part of the National Museums of Liverpool, there is a temporary exhibition programme and it is free entry. Val then headed towards the Waterfront for a stroll around its historic docks, and enjoyed a quick lunch before heading back into town for some early Christmas shopping in Liverpool ONE. This retail and leisure district has seen the city centre transformed over recent years and there’s a range of shops to suit all tastes. Val reports the city is an excellent destination for groups with a good choice of activities for an interesting day out. There’s also a range of walking tours around the city led by the Royal Institute of British Architects, which can be tailored to a group’s specific interests.
