THE famous Michelin Guide to hotels and restaurants is celebrating its centenary.
Invented by French brothers, Edouard and Andre Michelin, the first guide, published in 1900, was designed to help motorists travelling through the French countryside. It included practical advice on trouble shooting your motor vehicle, where to find petrol stations and where to stay. The star system was introduced in the 1920s.
To mark this special anniversary, every purchase of the ‘2011 Great Britain & Ireland’ Michelin guide includes a free book on its history.
