Opera North opens spring season

Opera North opened its spring season earlier this month at the Grand Theatre, in Leeds, with a new production of Fidelio, Beethoven’s only opera. Leading soprano, Emma Bell, who last performed with Opera North in the 2000 production of Radamisto, plays the title character, Leonore.
Other works that make up the season are a new production of Janáek’s From the House of the Dead and Bizet’s Carmen, which returns from Opera North’s winter season with a new cast, including American mezzo Sandra Piques Eddy taking the title role in her British debut.
The season climaxes with Wagner’s Das Rheingold, the first chapter in Opera North’s undertaking of Wagner’s monumental Ring Cycle, which will be continued in concert over four years.
Opera North will be touring theatres across the Midlands and north of England with its four spring productions until September.
Group discounts vary between theatres. For dates and venues visited on the tour, see the listings page here.
