Power station plans approved

PLANS for a £5.5 billion redevelopment of London’s Battersea Power Station have been given the go-ahead by Wandsworth Council.

Historic areas of the Grade II listed power station will be restored as part of Rafael Viñoly’s scheme, which includes a hotel, public event spaces, shops and restaurants.
The development will also include a new tube station on the proposed extension of the Northern Line.
In front of the power station, a six-acre riverside park will be created, connecting to Battersea Park via the Riverside Walk.
Construction on phase one of the development is scheduled to start in early 2012 with completion in 2016.
The remaining phases, including the new underground station will follow, with the entire development scheduled for completion in 2024.
