Queen of the Nile triumphs

The Northern Ballet’s Cleopatra.

The Northern Ballet’s Cleopatra.

GTO was in good company recently when we were invited to the opening night of the Northern Ballet’s Cleopatra at London’s Sadler’s Wells, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Craig Revel Horwood of Strictly Come Dancing fame. It was a real pleasure to watch, with artistic director David Nixon creating a wonderful story ballet. Martha Leebolt danced beautifully as Cleopatra, the last pharaoh of Egypt who famously seduced both Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, and it’s not difficult to see why she won the 2010 National Dance Award for Outstanding Female Performance (Classical) for Dangerous Liaisons. You can still catch Cleopatra on tour so head to our music section in the above navigation for a list of venues, together with details of other Northern Ballet productions coming up.
