Salisbury Cathedral tours go virtual

Internet users can now explore Salisbury Cathedral online. The new initiative by Google, based on their Street View technology, provides a 360-degree interactive virtual tour of the 750-year-old building.

The tours include virtual access to Britain’s tallest spire, the Cathedral’s medieval scaffolding and the views across the city and surrounding countryside.

The Cathedral plans to keep the virtual tours up to date and is exploring other potential uses such as presenting an online walk-through of a planned liturgy.

Salisbury Cathedral’s virtual tour was shot last month by Google photographer John Carratt of Red Leaf Photography and is found on the Cathedral’s website at, its Facebook page, or via Google Search Results, Google+ Local and Google Maps.
