GTO’s Partnership and Product Director and resident animal enthusiast, Sarah Jeffery, recently paid a visit to Marwell Zoo near Winchester, for a pre-Christmas outing as part of a small family group.
Spread over 140 acres, the zoo is home to a vast range of exotic and endangered species including giraffes, meerkats, hippos, penguins and cheetahs. Sarah’s favourites were the big cats, and she loved getting up close to the two beautiful Amur Tigers that visitors could view from a number of vantage points around their spacious enclosure.
It was a cold and windy winter’s day, but this didn’t deter the group. In fact, it made viewing the big cats even better, as according to one of Marwell’s keepers, the big cats love being out in the wind.
The group also enjoyed a ride on Marwell’s land train, which offers a hop-on, hop-off service around the park – ideal for resting weary legs – and enjoyed Penguin Cove, where they could view the Humboldt penguins above and below water, via an underwater cave. It was great to watch them flying through the water so effortlessly.
Groups of 12 or more receive great offers including discounted admission, one free adult admitted per every 12 paying guests, free coach parking and a free advance visit for group organisers to help plan your day.
