A RARE opportunity for groups with an interest in engineering is being planned at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport, Hampshire, for 2012.

As part of the HMS Alliance Conservation project, parts of the inner workings of the Second World War diesel-electric submarine will become exposed for the first time to the general public as urgently needed maintenance work gets underway.
As the planned conservation works progress on the metal casing of HMS Alliance, specialist groups will be given the opportunity to get up close to the real engineering behind this unique survivor from the Second World War period.
This will be the only chance that groups are ever likely to have to explore the inner working of the machine, as all submarines are built under top security.
The conservation work on HMS Alliance is due to start early in 2012, and be completed by summer 2013.
