Taxing times in Italy

A new tourist accommodation tax due to be introduced by the Italian Commune of Venice on 1st July is now unlikely to come into force before 23rd August, owing to a delayed council debate.

The hotel bed tax of €1 (88p) per person, per star, per night follows similar moves in Rome (reported in a previous post) and Florence. Proceeds are intended to help maintain local infrastructure and monuments.
