The UK Holiday Group has taken on the forward group bookings of the recently collapsed Bowen Travel Group, which included Appleby’s Coach Holidays and Jeff Coaches.
Individual bookings for coach holiday packages that were made prior to 25th October 2012 are covered by Bonded Coach Holidays, the Government scheme specifically for coach package holidays, administered by the Confederation of Passenger Transport.
Hays Travel is honouring other holiday and travel arrangements booked after 1 January 2012, where Bowens acted as a travel agent.
Approximately 1,500 passengers are booked onto group tours under the Bowen brands, and an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 passengers have made individual bookings.
Loughborough-based Bowen Travel Group ceased trading last month and administrator Deloitte stated that the group had been affected by the ‘depressed leisure sector’.
In a statement made on 12th November 2012, Deloitte said: ‘The UK Holiday Group is pleased to announce that it has now made contact with all Bowen Travel group bookings and most of those holidays will continue as planned. For group bookings, customers should approach their group leader in the first instance.’
Paul Bennett, managing director of the Norwich-based UK Holiday Group, commented: ‘We are delighted to be able to stand in to rescue the holiday plans of so many people’.
The UK Holiday Group has also recruited two former Bowen employees, David Lote and Maureen Quinn, who have joined its group tour division, just for groups!
