Valentine’s day out

David Dahms, Chairman of the Sainsbury’s Veterans Group in the South East, had the mammoth task of co-ordinating a trip for 392 people using nine coaches this Valentine’s day!

Stopped outside Guildford Cathedral.

“I took the group to Warner Leisure Hotels’ Lakeside Coastal Village on Hayling Island in Hampshire where they were treated to a first-class three-course lunch and an afternoon of
super entertainment by a cabaret act in the style of Michael Buble,” recalls David. “We were really looked after.”
There were a variety of different stop-offs for coffee taken by the group enroute, depending on where members were travelling from, but the two coaches that David was travelling with enjoyed a pre-booked break at Guildford Cathedral in Surrey. “I’ve used this attraction as a coffee stop before,” says David. “It has an excellent refectory and is conveniently located just off the A3, so is one to look out for if other GTOs are thinking of taking a group through the area. If there is time, it is worthwhile taking a look inside the cathedral too.”
Organising a trip out for nearly 400 people from across the south east, from Canterbury to the Solent, was no mean feat, and David has much praise for Plan-it Travel of Chelsfield in Kent, who provide coach travel for his group outings. “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the company for the better than excellent service they have given us over the past 11 years. The drivers could not be more helpful and Frank Ritchie, the director who handles the bookings, is so constructive when one is formulating the annual programme. My sincere gratitude for his courtesy and co-operation, and that of all of his team.”
