World’s first hypersonic passenger plane is on the way

PLANS for a hypersonic space-liner, capable of flying from London to New York in 90 minutes or London to Sydney in three and a half hours, have been unveiled by aerospace company, EADS.

The ‘Zero Emission Hypersonic Transportation’ (or ZEHST) would travel at up to 3,000 miles an hour – twice the speed of Concorde – carrying up to 100 passengers if development plans come to fruition, cruising just outside the atmosphere.
The ticket price for a 90-minute flight between Paris and New York has been estimated at £5,300, but prospective travellers have plenty of time to save – regular ZEHST flights are unlikely to be in operation before the middle of the century.
