GTO is pleased to announce the launch of a brand new group organiser scheme, in conjunction with broker, Belmont International, and insurer Hiscox, designed specifically for GTOs, starting from £175 per year!
As GTOs are well aware, there has always been a gap in the market for insurance specifically tailored to cover GTOs duties when it comes to organising package trips.
GTOs do not operate on a scale that warrants taking out expensive tour operator liability insurance, but do need to protect themselves when it comes to the legal issues when arranging package trips, such as covering themselves for possible claims of negligence. After careful discussions, GTO magazine has come up with a very attractive offer that we believe is perfect for GTOs.
The new policy, arranged through Belmont International Insurance and underwritten by Hiscox, aims to provide GTOs organising on behalf of an association or organisation the peace of mind that they will be covered for all unforeseen circumstances.
Professional indemnity
The policy includes professional indemnity insurance. This covers you for compensation you may have to pay to your members because of problems with your work. The limit of indemnity you choose will include legal defence costs and any subsequent damages awarded against you.
The key benefits of this cover include protection against negligence and emergency assistance to meet requirements under Package Holiday Regulations.
If you are a GTO who is not organising for an organisation
or association but merely under your own name then professional indemnity insurance alone will apply.
Trustees & individual liability
As a trustee, committee member or director of a club or association for which you arrange trips, tours or group holidays, you accept responsibility for all of the arrangements on behalf of your club or association. Delegating responsibilities to others is common; however as a trustee, committee member or director you retain the ultimate responsibility for any decisions or actions taken such as directing how club funds are to be used. What some GTOs may not know is that you are potentially putting your personal assets at risk if an allegation from a member of your group is made that you failed to use reasonable care and skill in executing your duties.
As with all organisations, clubs and associations, there are often a large number of rules and regulations which must be adhered to. For example, aspects of your activities may be regulated by government bodies. Trustees, committee members and directors need to be aware of these requirements and must ensure that the club or association complies. Our policy is designed to not only protect the group travel organiser but also the organisation and the trustees or committee members across all activities. Therefore it provides trustees and individual liability cover.
The risks that you will be protected against include claims brought against trustees, directors, officers, employees and volunteers, legal costs for allegations of breach of Health and Safety legislation or relevant Package Holiday regulations and legal costs and awards for claims by fellow trustees, employees or volunteers.
The finer details
The new policy has two levels of cover depending on the premium you would like to pay but prices range from £175 per year for GTOs arranging up to six UK package trips to £475 per year for those organising up to 24 package trips in the UK and Europe. Those groups travelling further afield or on a more regular basis than 24 package trips a year will be given a bespoke quote.
