The government has announced a Tourism Recovery Plan to help the sector bounce back from the pandemic. It aims to restore domestic tourism activity to pre-pandemic levels by 2022, and international tourism by 2023 – both at least a year faster than independent forecasts have been predicting. New initiatives to boost tourism include a £10 million National Lottery Days Out scheme to support attractions, and a new rail pass to encourage domestic breaks by train.
UNESCO has added 29 new cultural and natural heritage sites to its list for 2019.
