On the way to set up for this year’s Tourism & Attractions Show at West Midland Safari & Leisure Park, Contributing Editor Val Baynton called at the Museum of Carpet in Kidderminster’s town centre.
The museum, the only one in the UK dedicated to carpet and carpet-making, is based in the former Stour Vale Mill and the exhibition traces the history of carpet-making in the country, not just in the town. There are many archival exhibits showing the different types of carpets, fibres and dyes as well as how they are designed. Group tours include a talk about Kidderminster’s history, a guided tour of the museum and demonstrations by hand loom and power loom weavers.
Val enjoyed discovering more about the world of carpet and especially liked the ‘time-line carpet’ with panels made from original photographs and recreations of early designs.
