Here’s a great chance to learn about Herriot country!

Herriot Country Tourism Group members, with Hambleton District Council, Northallerton BID, Classic Lodges Hotels, and the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) Northeast branch have arranged a familiarisation visit to Herriot Country in association with Landor Travel Publications.

The visit is open to bona fide group travel organisers and will provide an excellent opportunity to discover the wide range of visitor attractions, market towns, hotels, pubs, restaurants, and other local businesses in Herriot Country that welcome group travel visitors.

The main attraction, World of James Herriot in Thirsk is the original home of the most famous vet in the world, James Herriot (Alf Wight OBE) whose stories of life as a country vet sold 60 million books translated into over 40 languages, two feature films, to the BBC TV series All Creatures Great and Small that ran from 1978 to 1990 and now has a new remake on Channel 5 TV, the second series of which will air in Autumn 2021. Other attractions on the visit include historic Kiplin Hall and Gardens which was built from 1619 for George Calvert, founder of Maryland, USA, Thorp Perrow which is the most important Arboretum in the North of England and is unique to Britain, if not Europe, plus two of the market towns of Herriot Country, Northallerton and Thirsk.

As well as the escorted trip around the area, the day will include a mini expo at which other Herriot Country Tourism Group members will be represented who will share their information, rates, timetables and offers with attendees.
