Last summer, Director Geoff Allen of Hampshire-based Travallen Travel and Events took a coachful of his regular clients on a four-night break to Snowdonia’s beautiful village of Beddgelert to explore the railways and tramways of the North Wales region.

Throughout the trip, the group enjoyed two journeys on the Welsh Highland Railway, descending 700 feet from the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog to the coastal town of Porthmadog and travelling along the foothills of Snowdon from Beddgelert to Caernarfon. An outing on the narrow gauge Llanberris Lake Railway in Pardan Country Park was also enjoyed.

A highlight for Geoff, however, was a day spent at the seaside town of Llandudno. He recalls, “We rode on the beautifully restored Victorian Great Orme Tramway to see the sights of the Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve. The weather was perfect and so we had stunning views across Anglesey and Snowdonia.”

Avensis Coach Travel of the New Forest, Hampshire, provided the transport, and Geoff worked with Sarah-Jane Davies of Norman Allen Group Travel in Hereford to tailor-make the itinerary.

He concludes, “The whole tour was a complete success, which was all down to much planning and organisation – thank you Sarah-Jane for all your hard work!”
