Summer Airshow Update 2021
The government has recently released its COVID-19 four-step plan to ease lockdown in England, and it looks like we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel for events and attractions over summer and beyond. But the future of some summer 2021 events still hangs in the balance with the recent cancellation of popular airshows like Airbourne and the English Riviera Airshow.
Below is a list of various airshows across the country and their current status.

English Riviera Airshow, Torbay (Devon)
For a second year running, the English Riviera Airshow in Torbay has been cancelled. Originally scheduled for 5th-6th June 2021, the event has been running since 2016.
“This is the second year in a row we have had to postpone the event, which draws in crowds of over 165,000, along the English Riviera coastline and contributes more than £7m to the local economy”
The 2022 airshow will be taking place 4th – 5th June, please check the website for any future updates.
Bournemouth Air Festival (Dorset)
Bournemouth Air Festival is scheduled for 2nd – 5th September 2021.
The airshow is currently still scheduled to take off in 2021, and this year will mark the 13th edition of the popular Bournemouth Air Festival, following the cancellation of the 2020 show. Over time it has become the best-attended seaside airshow in the UK.
Tickets for this event are free, please visit the website for more information.
Airbourne, Eastbourne International Air Show (East Sussex)
Originally scheduled for 12th to 15th August this year, the 2021 Airshow has been postponed for a second year in a row.
“The decision to postpone the 2021 event has not been taken lightly, however, we know that it is the responsible one to make taking into account the continuing forms of social distancing to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors.”
The next Eastbourne Airbourne is scheduled for 18th – 21st August 2022.
Farnborough Airshow (Hampshire)
The Farnborough Airshow is held every other year (on even-numbered years), due to Covid-19 restrictions the 2020 event was cancelled. There was not due to be a Farnborough Airshow this year – as the airshow alternates with the Paris Air Show (which has been cancelled for 2021). The Next Farnborough Airshow is due to be held from 18th to 22nd July 2022. Visit the website for more details.
Biggin Hill (Kent)
The 2020 Festival of Flight was planned to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and The Hardest Day, illustrating these extraordinary events in UK history, both in the air and on the ground. But this was cancelled due to Government restrictions.
There is currently no date for a 2021 airshow, you can check the website for regular updates and any announcements on future airshows.
Blackpool Airshow (Lancashire)
Blackpool’s annual summer air show has been cancelled for the second year running. The airshow was scheduled to take place on the weekend of 7th and 8th of August 2021, on the Tower Festival Headland on the seafront.
Event organisers VisitBlackpool say that despite the gradual easing of lockdown measures and the progress made on vaccinations, there is still too much uncertainty relating to the staging of mass events during the summer months.
Rhyl airshow (North Wales)
The free seaside airshow in the North Wales coastal resort of Rhyl is scheduled to take place from 28th to 29th August 2021. As with many airshows last year, the 2020 event had to be cancelled due to Covid-19, but the Managing Director of Denbighshire Leisure promises the 2021 airshow will go ahead “bigger and better than ever”.
