Design and Production Assistant

Specialist media company Landor Travel Publications (LTP) requires a Design and Production Assistant to help with the preparation of its print publications, other printed materials, and digital and online products. You will also assist with the running of our Mac-based systems and housekeeping.

Hastings-based LTP has produced print and online products for the travel and tourism sector for a number of years with GTO (Group Travel Organiser) magazine being the flagship print title and wildlife guide Discover Animals the main online product, bringing our valued editorial content to new audiences. Other activities include events such as our GO Travel Show and annual Group Travel Awards, for which production of supporting marketing material is one of our regular needs.

What you’ll bring:

Candidates need to have experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator on Mac-based systems, as well as other software programmes such as Excel and Google Sheets. Familiarity with online digital outputs like WordPress and PageSuite would be a distinct advantage. Other qualities required are a good level of personal (and content / workflow) organisation, a meticulous approach and commitment to quality control, and the ability to work well and liaise effectively within a small friendly team, which can be facing pressures of deadlines etc.

What you’ll do:

Your design and production duties will include the layout and preparation of PDF magazine pages for print, creating print marketing materials for trade shows and other events, and creating print and online adverts. Administrative duties include liaising with clients to chase and check advert copy, and maintaining order records. Digitally, you would be expected to convert designs for digital use and upload, and help design Mailchimp and web banner campaigns.

What we’re offering:

We operate as a friendly enthusiastic team in office space in Wellington Square, Hastings. The position is offered on a part-time freelance basis. Hours required per week will vary but are likely to average out at least 18. Some flexibility in being able to manage weekly hours to suit a changing business schedule would be an advantage. Hourly rate based on £20K per annum plus loads of personal development support and opportunities.

Our commitment:

We value our diverse team and are committed to equal employment opportunity within the workplace, and particularly welcome applications from those who identify under one of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.

Junior Front-end Developer

We are a well established and successful publishing and information provider in the travel, tourism, transport and new mobility sector, with ambitious plans to unlock the value of our specialist content, presentation skills and purposeful connections in new ways.

We are looking for a proven digital innovator with experience and demonstrable achievements in managing and presenting unique information, photographs and maps to benefit specialist user groups.

We hire people who are passionate about sharing what they know, and we love working with people who are driven to learn.

You’ll be working closely with our senior full-stack developer who has an enviable record in applying innovative new platforms and applications, and who will support your ambitions to implement new ideas and systems to harness our content and connections.

What you’ll bring:

You’ll need to have experience in HTML5 and CSS3, with well-formed markup and accessibility at the forefront of your mind. Basic knowledge of JavaScript is ideal but not required.

Applicants with enthusiasm to learn modern CSS frameworks like Tailwind, or be receptive to new concepts/architectures like JAMstack, or using open-source alternatives like OpenStreetMap and Mastodon, would be highly welcomed.

What you’ll do:

Your early involvement will primarily be working on our major publications that run on legacy WordPress systems, before ultimately assisting the team as we continue migrating all our projects onto JAMstack environments using a headless CMS, with industry standard version-control systems and unit testing.

Your immediate role will also involve transferring our print magazine material to all our digital formats, whether that’s using your markup knowledge to publish editorials onto our existing websites, or learning the fundamentals of JSON so that you can assist our team with posting content onto new platforms like Apple News.

This role would be perfect for individuals who currently see themselves as junior front-end developers, who want to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on our existing systems, whilst being receptive to learning new concepts of web development that will ultimately change the way content is published online, and therefore allowing you to grow your skill-base as the medium continues to evolve.

Our commitment:

We value our diverse team and are committed to equal employment opportunity within the workplace, and particularly welcome applications from those who identify under one of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.
